The third wife of Azam Khan Hoti has filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court seeking disqualification of her husband from contesting the upcoming general elections.

Shameem Akhtar Kayani, the third wife of Hoti, through her lawyer Hashmat Habib advocate, filed the petition. The Election Commission of Pakistan, the Senate chairman, the National Assembly speaker and Hoti have been made respondents in the case.

The stance adopted in petition was that since Hoti had been convicted, he was not eligible to run for elections.

On April 7, 2003, the accountability court in Attock had convicted Hoti on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
