Several lawyers joined hands to lock up a judge in the courtroom after he refused to grant a stay order on a miscellaneous application in the Judicial Complex of Rawalpindi on Monday.

Lawyer Husnain Chauhan approached the court of Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Aslam Gondal on Saturday and filed an application for a stay order in a civil case. On the court’s rejection to grant the stay order, Chauhan exchanged harsh words with the judge.

Office bearers of the District Bar Association, Chauhan and other lawyers subsequently lodged a complaint against the attitude of Muhammad Aslam Gondal before the Rawalpindi sessions judge. They were assured that Aslam Gondal will not work as both judicial officer as well as returning officer of NA-52 Rawalpindi III.

On Monday, Chauhan along with other lawyers found Aslam Gondal still working as a judicial officer. The lawyers then locked the judge in his courtroom and sent out a call for strike in the lower courts. Gondal was rescued from the courtroom after three hours.

District Bar Association President Israr-ul-Haq Malik said that the general body of the association has passed a resolution against the additional session judge in which they demanded the removal of the said judge.

“Session Judge assured us that no lawyer of this bar will appear before the court of Aslam Gondal and after process of scrutinizing the nomination papers of candidates is completed, he will be transferred,” Malik said.

Due to the non-working of judges, the whole process of scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates for National Assembly and Provincial Assembly seats was also disturbed as the Additional Session Judge Aslam Gondal was also working as a returning officer of NA-52. The process of scrutiny was adjourned till April 5.

  1. Jahil lawyer. These idiots will lead us into new era of politics. I hope these people get dealt with full force of the law.

  2. I think the lawyers are really hugging the limelight for all the wrong reasons. First they throw rose petals and garland a murderer, later on they throw shoes at a former president, followed up by locking a judge in his chamber. No doubt the profession is in danger of losing itself. What next?
