Battle lines have been drawn for the upcoming coming elections in Larkana as Ghinwa Bhutto and Faryal Talpur are set to face each other in NA-207.
Faryal, who returned to the National Assembly unopposed in 2008 elections, might be facing a tough competition this time around from her rival parties. Besides Ghinwa Bhutto, the widow of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, a number of candidates belonging to different political parties have also filed their nomination papers from NA-207 to contest against Faryal Talpur who happens to be sister of President Asif Ali Zardari. Faryal is a key figure in awarding tickets to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members, especially in Sindh.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has fielded Amir Bakhsh Bhutto from the Larkana constituency. Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro and Obaid Balolai are Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidates respectively. Ghulam Shabbir Lashari and Muhammad Mithal are also running as independent candidates.
