NADRA prepares electronic voting software to facilitate overseas Pakistani

Chairman National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) Tariq Malik stated on Monday that the authority has prepared a software to facilitate overseas Pakistani’s voters to use their right of casting votes.

Addressing a press conference at NADRA headquarters on Monday, Tariq Malik said that the professionals of the authority have successfully prepared a software through which overseas Pakistani’s could cast their vote during general election 2013.

He said that through the said software Pakistani nationals staying in 15 countries across the globe including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Oman, United States, Kuwait, Canada, Bahrain, Qatar, Italy, Malaysia, Spain, France and Australia can cast their desired vote.

Tariq Malik said the software would be sent to Election Commission (EC) for approval from where it would be forwarded to Supreme Court (SC) after authorization.

He said that the approved software prepared at the cost of Rs 1.5 million would be installed in Pakistani embassies in 15 countries where staff would be deployed to guide the overseas voters.

  1. In a country where corruption is norm of life, who would ensure nobody alters the poll’s records in Database? It’s not like no one has ever successfully got made fake ID cards from NADRA.

    I am surprised software will install in embassies .Why ?? Why not accessable for all pakistanis who has NIC living abroad.Just like bank software.
    Hire 20 to 30 computer experts.where they confirm our abroad registratrion by the help of Nadra data.
    Fill up NIC number and date of birth.Complete registration and take confirmation number from Election commision computer experts.Day of polling or little earlier, by the confirmation number " VOTE it."
    In all cities ,there are no embasseies or consulate ,Not easy to cast the vote in the city and impossible out of city.

    • I agree Mrs. Israr,that means that I would have to drive almost 6 hours to go vote in Houston Texas,why can't I just go online and vote,its still backward idiots making policies in Pakistan.

      • it'll be prone to hacking and other rigging stuff if we have to vote online on internet. intranet is more secure that's why the software will only be available in embassies and consulates.

  5. A software should also be there to facilitate those who are living outside their home stations in Pakistan like ARMED FORCES OFFICIALS.

  6. The easiest would be vote by phone as in PTI ellections. Either on the day of ellections or 24-48 hours before they should open a central no manned by 50 Returning polling officers, who takes call from overseas Pakistanis, confirm their NICOP no and allow them to cast their vote by phone. Majority of Overseas Pakistanis will be working on polling day and most of them wount be able to travel long distances to cast their vote!!!To make sure there is no fraud, these central phone lines with returning officers should be attended by representative of all major national parties like in an ordinary polling booth except it will be on a larger scale..

There is no need to worry about casting of votes It will be done ONLINE while sitting in your comfortable homes/offices all over the world where Pakistanis are living and making a huge contributions towards the well being of their beloved country. I am sure there will be a form which voters will be able to fill online and DATA will go directly to ECP No one will alter the votes because the changing of any entry by anyone will not be easy. Let us hope it works well for us all.

  9. hi The software need finger prints to give vote there is a electron device for that purpose which will verify the thumb etc fingers and will check to match the finger prints and then it will be consider a vote

Unless there is some biometric system in it, the software will be a joke. anybody can enters anybody NICOP or NIC and cast a joke from anywhere. Sending it to embassies sounds like a joke too. Software should be accessible by anywhere.

Unless there is some biometric system in it, the software will be a joke. Anybody can enters anybody NICOP or NIC and cast a vote from anywhere. Sending it to embassies sounds like a joke too. Software should be accessible by anywhere. Requirement of people to be present in embassies is a joke too. Do they expect that people in a big country like USA will travel to embassy in 5-6 hours flight to cast vote?

    • Can you not do so much for your country! We overseas Pakistanis who have seen the world, and know that PTI is a ray of hope must take the trouble to go and vote for the right party; else the elections will be won on the vote of the bribed farmers – then who is to blame if the country does not prosper.
