Maryam Nawaz not contesting in upcoming elections

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the only daughter of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, will not be contesting in the upcoming general elections.

According to details, Maryam Nawaz did not show up at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office on Sunday to file her nomination papers. Sunday was the last day for candidates to file their papers to contest in elections. However, neither Maryam Nawaz nor any of her representatives turned up at the ECP office to file her nomination papers.

It is pertinent to mention that political analysts had predicted that Maryam, after Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, was being groomed to play an active role in mainstream politics of the country. It was widely believed that she would contest the elections from Lahore.

Maryam Nawaz had made many public appearances ā€“ from laptop distribution ceremonies to extra-curricular activities ā€“ over the last five years. Had she decided to contest in the upcoming general elections, Maryam would have given a fresh face to PML-Nā€™s politics.

Her husband, Capt (R) Safdar, is already a political figure. He is contesting the coming polls from Nowshera from a National Assembly constituency. He is an ex-MNA as well.
