As a reaction to the initiation of two new routes in the federal capital, residents of Sector G-8 demanded high-ups of district administration and Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) on Sunday to start a public transport route that passes by the Markaz of the sector.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner directed the ITA secretary to start two new routes, Route No 139, which would commence from Tramri Chowk and would terminate at E-11 Markaz and Route No 105A from the Secretariat to Sector G-15 via Sector G-11.
Talking to INP, a group of residents at G-8 Markaz said that the district administration is starting new routes to facilitate the residents of the sectors which were not populous and is ignoring the thickly populated Sector G-8.
“The public transport passes by the central markets of almost all sectors but we are deprived of the facility. We have to walk for 1.5 kilometres to hop on a public transport vehicle,” he said.
They said that the transport authority of the federal capital was treating them as second class citizens by not providing them with a transport facility.
Shahid Rasul, a resident of a residential tower in G-8 Markaz, said that traveling anywhere with his family in the capital city was very troublesome as he had to use taxi which was three times costlier.
“Same is the case whenever I have to carry some luggage. I cannot walk for one kilometre with the luggage on my shoulders,” he added.
The residents demanded Islamabad deputy commissioner and ITA secretary to start a public transport route that passes through Sector G-8.
