Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey says he has no regrets at joining the north London outfit despite another testing season.

The Wales international has not performed at a consistently high level during the course of the campaign while the team too has not met fan expectations and is set to finish the season trophyless.

On a personal level, Ramsey puts this down to being asked to play in a variety of positions but the 22-year-old says he has no issues taking one for the team.

“The team has suffered as a whole with consistency over the season and that has been a factor personally and as a team. But over the past few months I have been happy with the way that things have been going,” Ramsey told the Daily Mail.

“You need to stay in that one position to get consistency that way. Different things are going through your mind when you are playing out right to when you are playing through the middle so you can’t get through that routine of where you want to play.

“I have done a job at wide right, right back and things like that this season which, if the manager asks me to do I am going to do it, even though it is not my favourite position. It is difficult when you chop and change like that but I’m happy to do it for the team.

“We need to address our consistency as a team, and that hopefully is something that we can do, especially in this last run-in. If we get that right and our balance then we will bring success to the club.”

Ramsey joined the Gunners in 2008 and is yet to taste trophy success with the club as manager Arsene Wenger continues to struggle to repeat his early triumphs at Arsenal.

However, he insists it was still the right decision to sign for the Londoners despite interest from current champions-in-waiting Manchester United.

“I came from a rugby school and rugby nation, but I fancied giving football a go and luckily it paid off,” he said.

“The main factor in joining Arsenal was meeting with Arsene Wenger and to hear what his plans where for me.

“He has brought through so many youngsters and given them opportunities and turned them into great players.

“They flew me over there to have a meeting with him. I was overwhelmed. I was 17 and one of the best managers in the world wants to meet me face to face.

“It was definitely a hard choice to make at my age, but I’ve no regrets, I think I made the right choice. I felt more wanted at Arsenal, I felt the plan was better for me and they gave youngsters more opportunities. Manchester United also had a lot of midfielders at the time as well.

“It’s great that all the British players chose to commit to the club [Arsenal] and it’s important to have that.

“It’s good to have players in the same position as you, they can relate to you, it’s going to be a vital thing in the club’s history in the near future, I think.

“All the players are good and you can get on with them but it’s nice to have a relationship with a player who has come through a similar situation to you and that they’re British as well.”

Arsenal face a fight to ensure UEFA Champions League football next season as they sit four points behind Tottenham in fourth position, although the Gunners have a game in hand.
