Mela Chiraghan takes off!

Mela Chiraghan, the two-day annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Shah Hussain, started at his shrine at Baghbanpura on Saturday.

Religious Affairs Director General Hassan Rizvi inaugurated the Urs celebrations by laying a traditional ‘chadar’ (cloth) on the grave of the Sufi saint.

Administrator Shamsul Haq, former MNA Roheel Asghar and a large number of devotees were also present on the occasion. They also prayed for the development, progress and stability of the country.

The Auqaf Department allocated over Rs 458,000 for free meals for the devotees at the Urs.

A Mehfil-e-Samaa and Mehfil-e-Naat will also be held for the occasion where noted qawwals and naat khawans will perform. Religious and spiritual meetings would also be held and religious leaders will shed light on the teachings of Hazrat Madhu Lal Hussain.

The city district administration has made required security arrangements for the occasion.
