Prime Minister Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Thursday said that he was committed to holding free and fair general elections in the country.
He directed the Ministry of Interior to make all necessary arrangements to achieve the objective of holding free and fair elections.
Attending a meeting held by senior officials of the Ministry of Interior to review the overall security in the country, Khoso was informed that at least 600,000 applications for renewal of passports were pending because of shortage of lamination papers. He was also told that efforts were underway to clear the backlog within a week.
Furthermore, Khoso was informed that the ministry was geared up for elections and had initiated the process of collecting intelligence in this regard. Furthermore, ministry officials said that efforts were underway to maintain peace before, during and after elections.
Moreover, he was informed that 85,000 poling stations were likely to be established for holding elections. Sensitive polling stations and areas had been identified so that polls could be conducted peacefully.
The prime minister said that the upcoming election was a tough challenge and urged the law enforcement agencies to remain alert and impartial to ensure a free and transparent election.
