City district officers of the provincial capital have been assigned by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the monitoring and surveillance during the election period in the city, Pakistan Today learnt on Wednesday.

There are 13 judicial and 13 city district officers assigned for the monitoring and surveillance purpose. The officers have been given the charge of a magistrate.

A training session of district officers was held at Jinnah Hall, for the allocation of duties of surveillance and monitoring in the election days. The teams will also ensure the number and the sizes of billboards are according to the directions of the election commission.

Each monitoring team will be provided two video cameras, transport facility and security. Training workshops for the teams will be held in divisional headquarters and the provincial election commissioners and other higher officials will impart training to them.

The monitoring teams will report to the district returning officials and returning officers about the violation of the ECP by-laws by the candidates and their supporters. The reports of the teams will also help in estimating the election campaign expenditures of the candidates.

As per the code of conduct of election commission, all the provincial and national assembly candidates have to follow the rules for their political rallies or political advertisements. Every type of wall chalking will be banned and all the advertisements on the public property have to pay the fee to Park and Horticulture Authority (PHA).

As per ECP documents, 350 polling stations have been declared sensitive and 29 out them have been labeled as ‘extra sensitive’.
