The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday restrained Dr Riaz Waraich from performing his duties as executive director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui passed the order on the petition of PIMS Joint Executive Director Dr Altaf Hussain who held that Dr Warraich was not eligible for his current position.
During the course of the hearing, Shoaib Shaheen, the petitioner’s counsel, appraised the court that Dr Warraich was not eligible for the position he held in PIMS but had been appointed because of his political connections. He contended that the post of PIMS executive director was a BPS-21 post and the required qualification for this post was MBBS with specialisation in some selected field.
“A minimum 22 years experience in the field of public health was mandatory for this post,” he added.
The counsel said that Dr Warraich held a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and had only a teaching experience.
“Therefore, he is not a suitable candidate for the post of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Executive Director,” he said. After hearing the arguments, the bench stopped PIMS ED Dr Riaz from performing his duties until further orders.
The counsel said that Dr Warraich held a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree and had only a teaching experience.
