Cut in fiber cable slows internet speed in Pakistan by 60 percent

There is reportedly a cut in the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4) fiber cable which has caused degradation of internet speed by 60 percent in several countries including Pakistan.The cut took place on Wednesday in the Mediterranean Sea close to Alexandria in Egypt. Internet service is being provided through a substitute cable in the region. The optical fiber cable system is the internet backbone between Europe, Middle East, sub-continent and Europe. A time-frame for the restoration was not given.
