A high level meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahid Nadeem Baloch at the Central Police Office to review the police security measures in connection with the coming general election.
The meeting was attended by Sindh’s Additional IGs, CID officials, DIGs, Head Quarters officials, high ranking officials from Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Special Branch officials, and all District SSPs of the province.
Shahid directed the police officers to finalise the District Election Contingency Plan at the earliest in consultation with the respective district, sessions’ judges and deputy commissioners.
He also directed the Special Branch of Police to assist District SSPs in finalisation of the Election Contingency Plan.
The IGP further directed police officers to ensure survey of the police stations along with the designated district head of Election Commission (EC) and respective deputy commissioner, and submit a report in this regard at the earliest.
The IGP also asked the officials concerned to submit within 24 hours through respective Range DIGs, the details of additional requirements including additional force, logistics and other related assistance for the coming elections.
He directed the officials concerned to furnish categorised details of the number of
polling stations with reference to most sensitive, sensitive and normal polling station locations.
Shahid stressed to identify general issues prevailing in the respective districts and to adopt measures to resolve them at a local level by involving community members and local leaders.
He said that extra-ordinary security measures must be entrusted to provide security to the lives and properties of the people and vital installations including government/semi-government buildings.
Moreover, the IGP Shahid directed the officials concerned to ensure security to foreign citizens working on different projects in the province and to make this measure a part of the Election Contingency Plan as well.
