Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) will have the capital’s first forensic laboratory, a senior official at the hospital said on Wednesday.
“All the documentation has been completed and the facility will be set up soon,” he added.
Sources said that work on establishing the forensic laboratory had started a few months back, but it had now been expedited after the need for such a facility was felt during the investigation into the death of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Investigator Kamran Faisal.
It is pertinent to mention here that currently the samples which are to be tested are sent to a forensic laboratory in Lahore for detailed examination but the process is time consuming due to traveling distance.
With the establishment of a forensic lab, results of the test would be provided within a day or two.
