According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 39 percent Pakistanis think acid attack is the worst crime which can be committed against women.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the five provinces was asked, “In your opinion, what is the worst crime committed against women?” Responding to this, 39 percent said throwing acid, 24 percent said domestic violence, 21 percent said honour killing and 13 percent said vani (child marriage) was the worst crime committed against women.

However, 3 percent did not give a response.

When the results were compared locality wise, there was not much of a difference. Around 39 percent rural area residents thought acid attacks were the worst crime, whereas 40 percent urban area residents thought the same.

However, 32 percent people living in urban areas thought domestic violence was the second worst crime committed against women, whereas only 20 percent rural area residents held this view.
