Election campaign has gained momentum in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where tough contest is expected on four National Assembly seats among political heavyweights of different political parties in general election 2013.
Like in the past, tough electoral battle is expected in NA-3 Peshawar between top political heavyweights of the mainstream political parties of the country and candidates.
The Pakistan People’s Party has awarded ticket to former MNA Noor Alam Khan who is regarded as a strong candidate.
The PML-N is likely to field its General-Secretary Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, also a strong contestant while the JUI-F has given ticket to former district nazim Ghulam Ali. PML-Q’s Intikhab Khan Chamkani, ANP’s Arbab Inam, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Israrullah Khan will also try their luck. The candidates have started corner and public meetings in the constituency, informing people about manifestos and future programmes.
In their public and corner meetings, the candidates have vowed to change the destiny of the poor strata of the constituency by addressing all problems related to gas, electricity, education, health and better infrastructure facilities if voted to power in 2013 general elections.
Several parties have won from the constituency in the past. In 2008, Noor Alam defeated then ANP leader Hasum Babar with a narrow margin. Babar had later developed differences with the ANP and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The PTI is likely to give ticket to Babar who has a significant vote bank.
In 2002 general election, MMA candidate Qari Fayyazur Rehman won by obtaining 33,567 votes.
The political observers said that this time close contest was expected between Noor Alam, ANP’s Arbab Inam, JUI-F’s Ghulam Ali while JI’s Israrullah can also give surprise.
The constituency consists of urban and rural areas such as Gul Bela, Chagarmati, Ghari Mohmand, Charsadda Road, Muhammad Zai, Khalisa, Dalazak Road, Kandar and Naguman.
This constituency is inhabited by a majority of Pashtu speaking people whose major source of income is transport, farming, livestock and government jobs.
The landlords have a great influence over their tenants and the candidate who grabbed their support would easily win it.
The candidate who succeeded in winning the support of Maliks and veteran politicians will easily win the seat from the constituency.
jamaat will sweep in KPK
