Caretaker Prime Minister Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday took notice of media reports about frequent power outages in Balochistan.
He instructed the Water and Power secretary and the WAPDA chairman to visit Balochistan and take all necessary steps to mitigate the power-related grievances of the Baloch.
He gave these directions during a presentation by the Water and Power Ministry on the present energy situation in the country at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The PM was briefed about the entire power chain, including generation and distribution as well as the steps taken by the ministry to minimise load shedding in the country.
A detailed briefing was made by the ministry on the present generation, demand and recovery position.
Khoso directed WAPDA that correct bills should be sent to consumers to reduce their grievances.
Separately, Khoso was given a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan’s economy.
He was apprised of the challenges being faced by the economy, current economic situation including, balance of trade, budgetary position and the role of remittances on the economy.
Khoso said, “Pakistan is an agricultural country and we should focus on this sector which has the potential to lift the overall economy of the country.”
He also directed the Finance Ministry to streamline the banking system which would help in checking hundi and increasing remittances from the Pakistani diaspora.
