The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has suffered a major dent as its trump card for the upcoming election campaign, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has left for United Kingdom via Dubai over serious differences with his aunt, Faryal Talpur, over a host of party issues, leaving the party in a lurch, Pakistan Today has learnt reliably.

President Asif Ali Zardari has already disassociated himself from the PPP’s electioneering process due to the court’s ruling against him keeping two offices simultaneously.

Sources in the ruling party confided on condition of anonymity that Bilawal had left following a “family dispute”, as he was unhappy with Faryal, sister of President Asif Ali Zardari, also known as the “iron-lady”, who resisted some of Bilawal’s directions and rather opposed the same, angering the young Bhutto.

“Not only Faryal opposed the party chairman’s directions for awarding party tickets to some PPP leaders belonging to Sindh, she also opposed employment to some youngsters of Larkana,” the sources added.

The sudden departure of Bilawal had badly hit PPP’s prospects in the upcoming general elections, which are only 46 days away.

The PPP leader said the party election campaign was to start from Garhi Khuda Baksh on April 4 and would now be led by minnows like Yousaf Raza Gilani, Khursheed Shah and others, which may harm the party in a bad way.

“The situation may help people like PTI leader Imran Khan and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif who would run their party campaigns hectically,” the PPP leader said.

The sources said that when Bilawal approached President Zardari with a host of complaints, he too sided with his sister and his half-brother, Owais Muzaffar, known as Tappi, which angered the young Bhutto, who left for Dubai and then for the UK.

Though PPP leaders on record confirmed the departure of Bilawal, they did not confirm any family rift.

PPP Secretary-General Latif Khosa confirmed that Bilawal had left for Dubai on a ‘routine trip’ and that he would not lead the party’s campaign starting from April 4. However, he rejected the notion that Bilawal had left after a family dispute.

“There were some threats to the party chairman. So it has been decided that he would not lead the party campaign,” he said, adding that Bilawal had not left for UK and he would return to Pakistan soon.

Another source in the PPP claimed that Bilawal had differences with the party’s leadership over the failed policy of the government regarding issues like militant violence, sectarian killings of Shia community and over the distribution of party tickets for the upcoming elections.

The PPP leader informed that Bilawal was also upset over the mishandling of issues that affect the youth, especially in the wake of efforts by other parties like Imran Khan’s PTI, to woo the youth ahead of the polls.

Eminent political commentator Dr Rasool Bakhsh Raees told Pakistan Today that the Bhutto factor was crucial in interior Sindh and the people of Sindh had deep commitment to the Bhutto family.

He said this was the reason that even after the demise of Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari gave his son Bilawal a second name of Bhutto to keep his hold on Bhutto’s legacy.

He said Sindhis were passionate about love and hate relationships.

“You know the British rulers had hanged Peer of Pagara Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi, but his legacy lives on and the people of Sindh strongly remember the sacrifice of Pir Pagara. His grandson still enjoys support across Sindh. Same is the case with Bhutto and even after his hanging, thousands of people visit the mausoleum of Bhutto daily to express their love for his sacrifice,” he said.

“Bilawal’s presence or absence from the PPP’s election campaign could prove to be a boost or a dent for the PPP, especially in interior Sindh or South Punjab,” Raees said.

  1. "Democracy is the best revenge". It is different when it comes to visit you at home.
By the way I was never impressed with this meaningless statement.

    • The 'statement' is not only unimpressive and meaningless it is absurd. What probably he meant was what his father has done with Pakistan in the last five years.

  2. Nah its looks more of drama to promote Bilawal as new leader who differs from current leadership!
Watch when he comes back and launch the so called party again, they have nothing to show to people hence melo drama again to woo back the angry voters!

    • He can run but he can't hide, hopefully he'll end up in jail again and held accountable for the money looted.

  3. The guy is totally illiterate/disconnected about the affairs of Pakistan…. He is a foreigner in his own landed…..good riddance to bad rubbish…..

  4. Let me ask, where he was for the past five years, why he hadn't spoke about those matters, then, at that time, and they say Bilawal is raising issues now, (46 days left in polls). This whole is a melo drama, as leadership of PPP clearly realizes that they don't have anything to give to the PPL, so the youth card, the difference card is being played.

  5. Zardari is convinced that he is going to lose badly so why use his best asset in this election . I am sure he will spring up sometime in future.

I don't trust this whole family a bit , neither do we care. Son like father.

They should bear in mind , Pakistan ,5 years from now will be a very different situation where you will not be able to fool people . This is not politics of the 70-90 anymore. People know every thing about them.

    • Who else has not fooled the people of Pakistan? Name one. Even Imran K is not telling the biggest lie when he says, " I will always speak truth after coming to power".

  6. The first thing the elected government should do is to bring back the ill gotten gains of all the (status quo) political families Sharif's Bhutto's Chaudhary's Musharraf's back to Pakistan….. Investigation agency KROLL knows all about their assets abroad…..

  7. Drama sb dram. Only to advertise Mr Bilawal, that he has some dfference of openion to his crroupt father, nthing elss.

  8. Thats a big and well written drama..as last time Zardari got the sympethatic vote of BB murder, this time zardari is presenting bilawal as a different person …so be carefull of this ploy….

  9. Peoples Party is a family owned limited company. through democracy Zardari and his cronies took revenge from the people of Pakistan. Since Benazir's assassination over $ 100 billions are stolen from Pakistan. Balawal did a great favor to PPP crooks by refusing to become a sacrificial goat. Zardari destroyed PPP more than dictator Zia. Having leaders like Zardaris and Sharifs Pakistan needs no enemies.

  10. It is only POLITICAL DRAMA and bad efforts to regain the papularity which they lost during their 5 years unsuccess ruling the country. It is nothing and only to gain useless papularity through various negative behaviours to gain public`s sympathy for nothing. The nation of Pakistan very well knows that

        • you r not nation at all by any definition of a nation. You r 4 nationalities with different cultures, languages, and regions, and one nation, namely, Punjab trying to assert its monopoly on other three nations, namely Sindh, KPK, and Baluchistan. Hatred against PPP is also in the same context and PPP being a party of Sindh became object of hatred by dominant Punjabi judiciary, media and Punjabi higher classes.

    • O idiot what facts and figures. Forex reserves only 8 billion in 2008 rose to 19 billion in 2012 and 12 billion even now. Exports rose to 24 billion from 17 billion in 2008, Inflation declined to 7 % from 25% in 2008.

  11. Bilawal is young upcoming leader raised by an intellectual mother and one of the most popular political leaders of Pakistan. If her son wants to move in her footsteps, what is so strange about it? As far as staging a drama is concerned, It seems far from reality. It looked like earlier also that young Bilawal's perspectives were quite different on certain issues from the other party stakeholders. We must appreciate if the younger prodigy is giving wake up call to his elders. It would be very admirable if they take him seriously and become part of building a new Pakistan.

  12. I am surprised why in the world any pakistani would vote for Bilawal, Hamza and Marriyam shareef?
You educated pakistani are far better then any one of these Silver spoon fed idiots.
What in the world these 3 stooges have accomplished? think about it. Learn to bow to only ALLAH.
Under PTI you can prove that you are better then these corrupt families and their Stupid suppoters.
Wake up Pakistan, ALLAH only help those who help them self. You need to take charge of your life and be good citizen of Pakistan. Do not follow the sheep mentality crowed. vote for PTI and take a hold of your Destiny in your hand rather then giving to these corrupt PPP and PMLN leaders and their stupid kids

  13. no differences for 5yrs and now the hero son has differences with his villain dad when 1 month is left for elections. Last elections it was benazir n this time father son conflicts, seriously this is how ppp gonna get votes now? losers
