NADRA, TIP sign MoU to implement integrity pact

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Transparency International-Pakistan (TIP) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of integrity pact here at the Authority’s headquarters.
The MOU was signed by NADRA Chairman Muhammad Tariq Malik and TIP Chairman Sohail Muzaffar.
Advisor to TIP Adil Gilani was also present on the occasion.
The NADRA chairman termed the event historic for NADRA by saying that the MoU would be instrumental in supporting NADRA’s policy of zero-tolerance against corruption at all levels.
“We don’t only make identity documents but we exert ourselves in building trust and confidence of our people at both national and international levels. The best strategy to combat corruption is to set up systems, processes and framework in which it is impossible to be corrupt,” he added.
The NADRA employs proactive means of protecting citizen data and confidentiality, integrity and availability of data acted as the core of the systems, policies and procedures that governed the transmission of data, he said.
Tariq Malik said that over the years NADRA had taken a number of tangible measures to minimise corruption such as the ‘Whistle-blower’ system which provided a platform to NADRA employees and the public in general to report any misconduct, abuse, fraud and inefficiency that they could encounter while having the option to remain anonymous.
Furthermore, to increase transparency related to ID-card processes, a system-generated SMS-Tracking Service was introduced through which citizens were constantly updated regarding the status of their application, ranging from the submission of documents to the actual printing of the card, he added.

The NADRA chairman also said that now with TIP’s involvement, further transparency could be ensured in procurement and tender procedures in accordance with PPRA rules and international standards.
Sohail thanked Tariq for showing trust in TIP and assured their all-out assistance in the future, while the NADRA chairman vowed to sustain maximum transparency in all processes of the organisation with the help of TIP’s expertise in the future.
Amongst the signatories were many other senior officers of the NADRA. Meanwhile, TIP Adviser Adil Gillani also spoke on the occasion.
