Head of the exiled Syrian opposition coalition Moaz al-Khatib resigned Sunday, his media adviser and coordinator Mohamed Ali said.
“The coalition chief resigned due to the slackness of the international community while the people are being slaughtered in Syria everyday,” Ali said.
Ali blamed the international community for “reluctant” support of the Syrian opposition in terms of weapons under the pretext that they might reach terrorist hands.
The resignation comes a few days before the Arab League summit is to be held in Qatar’s Doha on March 26-27, which is expected to focus on the Syrian crisis.
Al-Khatib was expected to fly to Doha with a delegation of the Syrian opposition coalition as the legitimate representative of Syria in the summit at the invitation of the Arab League.
“Mr Al-Khatib will not travel to Doha and will not attend the summit,” his coordinator confirmed.
