Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Senior Special Magistrate Aamir Qureshi said on Sunday that the authority has recovered Rs 1.7 million in arrears from the defaulters in over 130 cases.
According to the available record, WASA supplied water to more than 80,000 consumers in Rawalpindi and its adjacent areas through Khanpur Dam, Rawal Lake and 270 tube wells. Only few consumers had cleared their bills, and the majority did not pay heed until WASA staff, along with police personnel, approached them at their doorstep.
More than 50 percent of the consumers were defaulters, as they did not pay their water bills. Moreover, some of them had installed illegal water connections at their residences.
