The Sindh High Court (SHC) accepted former president Pervez Musharraf’s application for pre-arrest bail on Friday.
Responding to the application filed on Thursday, the court granted Musharraf a 10-day bail period against a bond worth Rs one million, reported a private TV channel.
The application for pre-arrest bail filed by Musharraf’s daughter Aila Raza was in relation to the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) Judges case that dates back to 2007. At the time, Musharraf declared a state of emergency through the PCO and suspended the constitution. All judges were asked to take oath under the PCO, failing which, they were placed under house arrest.
The former president appointed Barrister Salman Safdar and AQ Halipota as his counsels.
Musharraf, who plans to end his self-exile with a return to Pakistan, is also involved in a number of cases in courts relating to the assassination of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto, the death of Baloch tribal chief Nawab Akbar Bugti and the Lal Masjid operation.
Musharraf is set to arrive in Karachi on March 24, to take part in the upcoming general elections under the banner of his party, the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).
