Pakistan Day ceremony at Awan-e-Iqbal discussed the wave of intolerance in the country on Friday.

Awan-e-Iqbal Chairman Arif Nizami, former Punjab governor Shahid Hamid, Waleed Iqbal and Altaf Ahmad Qurashi along with a large number of people were present at the ceremony.

Nizami said that Pakistan was getting weaker by the day because of intolerant treatment meted out against minorities. He said that Quaid-e-Azam’s August 11 speech had special focus on the minorities’ rights. He hoped that upcoming elections would play an important role in stabilizing the country.

Waleed Iqbal, Allam Iqbal’s nephew, said that Joseph Colony incident reflected that citizens’ rights were being usurped. He said the government should work to prevent incidents like Joseph Colony from taking place than distributing cheques once the deed was done.
