In an attempt to remain relevant to the country’s power corridors, former interior minister Rehman Malik on Thursday sent a letter to the President’s House requesting to be appointed as the president’s security advisor.

According to a report by a private television channel, the idea of Rehman Malik being appointed as the president’s security advisor had been floating in the President’s House but the cabinet division had shot the proposal down.

Despite the rejection of the proposal, Malik has pursued the appointment, citing the example of Dr Asim Hussain who was president’s family doctor before being appointed as a federal minister.

Suleman Farooqui, secretary to the President Asif Ali Zardari has solicited opinion from the concerned ministries on receipt of the letter from Rehman Malik.

It is pertinent to mention that although the prime minister appointed Dr Asim Hussain as a federal minister, his appointment will no longer hold once the caretaker prime minister is sworn in.
