Interpol rejects Pakistan’s request to arrest Pervez Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The Interpol has turned down Pakistan’s request to issue a red corner notice for the former military ruler PervezMusharraf for refusing to cooperate in the probe into BenazirBhutto’s assassination, days ahead of his homcoming from self-exile.

Musharraf has cleared the final hurdle to his plans to return to Pakistan as he no longer faces the possibility of arrest at the hands of Interpol, The Express Tribune quoted its sources as saying.

The 69-year-old former president, who went into self-exile in early 2009, has said he intends to return to Pakistan on March 24 to lead his party All Pakistan Muslim League in upcoming polls.

Islamabad’s request to issue a red corner notice for Musharraf was rejected by the Interpol headquarters in a reply sent to Pakistani authorities, who had sought an arrest warrant for him as a suspect in Bhutto’s assassination.

In its reply, Interpol said the possible arrest of Musharraf seems to be “politically motivated”.

The agency said the case filed against Musharraf in Pakistan through Interpol channels constitutes a matter of a predominantly “political character”.

This is the second time a request from the Federal Investigation Agency has been rejected by Interpol.

Last year, Interpol rejected the same request due to insufficient documents submitted by Pakistani authorities.

In response, Pakistani authorities sent a second request to the Interpol director with investigation reports, including copies of statements by former Inter-Services Intelligence counter-intelligence wing chief Javed Iqbal Cheema, former Intelligence Bureau chief Ejaz Shah, US-based journalist Marc Siegel’s emails to Bhutto and copies of orders issued by an anti-terrorism court against Musharraf.

  1. General(R) Pervaz Musharraf has the blessings of the Government of Israel and anyone who gets the blessing of the chief Rabbi no Western Government will touch him. If he is arrested on his arrival Washington DC and all those governments that have diplomatic ties with Israel will react strongly.

  2. Yaaay Mushi rocks! 🙂 Lets stop blaming the west for our problems and start handling them ourselves. If our internal affairs our strong no country would have influence over us. Musharraf said that the only threat to a stable Pakistan is internal.

  3. Pakistan has only itself to blame, Paki's like Mulana yuzai ( the stupid school girl) should be given a new i.d in her homeland at not be here in England, go back home and get shot by Muslims!

  4. I hope people of Pakistan can now compare what current government has given or taken from Pakistan with what Pervez Musharraf and his government done for the country. I hope people of Pakistan can at least wake up now.

    • I hope so too but Pakistanis are so stupid and short-sighted, that it would be a miracle if they are able to compare and make balanced judgements.

NO NEED WAS TO ASK INTERPOL TO ISSUE RED CORNER NOTICES FOR GEN.MUSHARRAF,AS THE CULPRITS OF BENAZIR ASSASINATION ARE AT LARGE AND ARE RUNNING THE AFFAIRS OF PAKISTAN.MUSHARRAF IS NOT INVOLVED AT ANY STAGE.IF GEN.MUSHARRAF IS DECLARED TO BE CULPRIT THAN LATE ZULFIQAR ALI BHUTTO WAS RIGHTLY INVOLVED IN THE KILLING OF LATE KASURI AND WHY PPP IS CRYING FOR HIS INVOLEMENT AS BASELESS.WHY THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT ASKS INTERPOL TO HAND OVER ALTAF HUSSAIN AS HE IS INVOLVED IN MANY KILLING CASES.WHY THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT IS SILENT?
