Aiwan-e-Iqbal Chairman Arif Nizami said that Pakistanis had lost their dignity in the international arena because they had forgotten Iqbal’s teachings. He was addressing a seminar titled Iqbal aur Daur-e-Hazir (Iqbal and Modern Trends) at Punjab University (PU) Oriental College on Tuesday. He was the chief guest on the occasion, while Iran Consul General Muhammad Hussain Bani Asadi, Prof Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Ikram, Prof Khawaja Muhammad Zakriya, Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Dr Zahoor Ahmed Azhar, Prof Dr Moeen Nizami along with other scholars were present on the ocassion.
Nizami said persistent self reform was paramount as envisioned by Iqbal. He said people were being killed in the country on sectarian basis and the nation as whole had lost its dignity by ignoring the teachings of Iqbal. He added that a peaceful society could be established by following Iqbal’s philosophy.
Nizami further said that all organisations bearing Iqbal’s name were only wasting funds and did nothing. While commenting about the recently finalised Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, Nizami said that it was an indication of unity among the Muslims as was envisioned by Iqbal.
Speaking on the occasion; Iran Consul General Hussaini said that if Iqbal was alive today, he would have been heartbroken to see the Muslims divided. He said that certain mischievous quarters had spread divisions among the Muslims, while Iqbal always propagated the idea of autonomy and sovereignty of Muslims. Irshad Ahmed said that Iqbal was in the favor of sovereignty of the parliament.
"Pakistanis had lost their dignity in the international arena because they had forgotten Iqbal’s teachings"
i disagree …we have lost our dignity because we have forgotton or failed to implement the teachings of the Quran and sunnah of our beloved Prophet
Sunnah of Prophet? You mean one more blackmail of sectarioan based Islam. Qur’an is enough for us, because if you say Sunnah, that means following Bukhari hadith, which contradict the Qur’an. There is no mention of hadith in Qur’an.
