Lecturers across Sindh on Tuesday boycotted all academic activities to protest the killing of Professor Sibt-e-Jafar Zaidi.
Earlier on Monday, the Sindh Professors’ and Lecturers’ Association (SPLA) had lashed out at the Sindh government and had announced to boycott all academic activities on Tuesday across the Sindh province to protest the professor’s killing.
The lecturers and professors, while holding placards, took out a rally on the main roads in front of universities and chanted slogans against the government and its policies.
The protesters demanded from the government to immediately arrest the killers of the slain professor.
The Shia Ulema Council (SUC) and Majlis-e-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) were also observing a three-day-long period of mourning to protest the professor’s killing, which came as a shock for the shia community.
Prof Sibt was gunned down on Monday in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area in what was being widely viewed as a sectarian attack on the college principal, who was also a prominent campaigner of sectarian harmony.
His funeral prayer was offered at Amroha Ground in Incholi after Zuhr prayer. A large number of people including political and other prominent personalities attended the funeral prayers.
