People who think that the upcoming general elections will only be a contest between the PTI and PML-N and the PPP will be wiped out will be surprised by the performance of the ruling party, Coordinator to the President Naveed Chaudhry said on Monday.
Naveed said PPP had delivered this time and the BISP had eradicated poverty at the grassroots, adding that relief measures taken by the federal government were immense but not properly highlighted in the media. He said PPP always gave the poor and the middle class chances in politics.
Naveed said he had won the general elections from NA-125 in 2002 but was shown defeated the next day, as some anti-democracy forces did not want the PPP to win. He said that in the 2008 general elections, the PPP voter was shocked over Benazir’s assassination and did not come out to vote, which benefitted PML-N. The PPP leader vowed that the situation was different this time as the judiciary and the ECP were independent and he would apply for a party ticket from NA-125. He said he was a founder member of PPP since 1969 and had served as zonal and UC president, PPP Punjab information secretary and spokesman to Benazir.
