Commonwealth Week celebrated playing cricket

Five Commonwealth countries, represented by officials from their respective High Commissions marked Commonwealth Week on Saturday playing a cricket tournament hosted by the British High Commission at diplomatic enclave. The five teams represented Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, High Commissions of Canada, Australia, India and the British High Commission. The teams played a series of friendly matches during an exciting six over event which was won by the Canadian High Commission after they defeated Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs after both the teams played good cricket. Commenting on the success of the event, the British High Commissioner Adam Thomson said, “Sport is a key part of Commonwealth’s identity and it promotes its core values, including humanity, equality as well as tolerance, respect and understanding.” He said the significance of the Commonwealth had been steadily growing over the last two decades and in publishing the charter, members had signed up to a common set of beliefs and made had made a clear intention to build up the institution and make it ever more relevant in the months and years to come.
