24 soldiers dead as bus falls into ravine

At least 24 security forces personnel were killed and five others injured on early Saturday morning when a bus fell into a deep ravine near the under-construction Basha Dam site in Kohistan district.
Hazara Commissioner Khalid Khan Omarzai told Pakistan Today that the personnel were en route from Gilgit-Baltistan to Swat. The vehicle went out of control near Samar Nallah in jurisdiction of Sazeen Police Station.
Kohat’s commissioner said so far 12 dead bodies had been airlifted from the site while the remaining were being shifted. The injured personnel had been admitted to a hospital, he said. The driver and conductor of the vehicle were also killed in the incident.
Officials said the accident took place in the early hours of Saturday and rescue activities took time. Police personnel with help from locals were retrieving dead bodies in the mountainous terrain.
