Islamabad Police launched a drive against professional beggars and arrested twelve beggars and registered separate cases against them on Friday.
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan had directed the heads of all police stations to launch an effective crackdown against beggars and register cases against them.
Following his directions, a police source said Islamabad Police had constituted special squads to curb the menace of begging and take prompt legal action against the professional alms-seekers. These teams would patrol in shopping centres and markets to arrest professional beggars. The IGP said mischievous elements wandered in the city appearing to be beggars and strict action was needed to curb such activities. Following the directions of the Islamabad Inspector General of Police Bani Amin Khan, heads of all police stations initiated an effective crackdown against alms-seekers and cases were registered after their arrest.
