The government has decided to extend the governor’s rule in Balochistan for two months, reports said on Thursday.

The Nawab Aslam Raisani-led coalition government was restored at 12am on March 14, 2013, after the two-month term of the rule imposed in the restive province expired.

But President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf decided to extend the rule for another two months and notification was issued on Thursday.

Analysts say a joint sitting of parliament was required to endorse extension of the governor’s rule, which was imposed by the president, invoking Article 234 of the constitution for two months in the aftermath of Alamdar Road bombing.

Meanwhile, Aslam Raisani had called a meeting of coalition partners in Islamabad on Thursday.

Raisani had refused to resign as the chief minister, as he was hopeful to get back his post through opposition’s support.

Raisani had met Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi in Islamabad on Wednesday and informed him about his allies’ decision that they would not allow resignation.

According to sources, the Balochistan governor and PPP leadership called on President Asif Ali Zardari to finalise the next move.

However, the meeting had ended inconclusively.
