Orangi Pilot Project director among 8 killed in Karachi

Eight people, including the director of Orangi Pilot Project, Parveen Rehman, were killed in various incidents of violence in Karachi on Wednesday.

According to a private TV channel, unidentified gunmen intercepted Parveen’s car near Banaras flyover and opened fire.

The channel said police sources had confirmed the identity of the deceased, adding that her body was taken to AbbasiShaheedHospital for medico-legal formalities.

Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad ordered that a special team be formed to probe into the murder while Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah sought a report from the Sindh IG.

Meanwhile, a body in gunny bag was recovered in Soldier Bazar and two people were killed in Lyari and Awami Colony.

Another two bodies were recovered from Kharadar and Nazimabad localities while a tortured body of a 12-year-old boy was found in Hijrat Colony.

Police constable Gulzar, who sustained injuries in a gun attack on a police vehicle outside the AnnuBhaiPark in Nazimabad on Tuesday night, succumbed to his wounds.

CID police claimed to have arrested three alleged militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a raid in Manghopir Colony. They said suicide vests and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from their possession.
