The government has failed to devise a solid strategy for giving overseas Pakistanis the right to vote, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Wednesday while hearing the case on expatriate Pakistanis’ right to vote.
The CJP said they had been reiterating that the Pakistanis living abroad were playing a pivotal role for the country’s progress, which was why it would be injustice to deprive them of the right to vote.
The apex court was told that the allotment of right to vote to overseas Pakistanis was under process such that the relevant parties were negotiating in this regard, which would take some time.
Hearing of the case was later adjourned until today (Thursday).
