Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gulam Shabbir Shaikh, along Additional IG Traffic DIG Zafar Bukhari, DIG West Jawed Alam, SSP East Imran Shaukat, SSP Centarl Amir Farooqi, SSP West Asif Ejaz Shaikh, other police officers and neighbours attended the funeral prayer of slain police constable Gulzar Husain at Garden Headquarters South here on Wednesday. He was martyred in an attack on police mobile in Nazimabad on Tuesday night.
According to a report issued by Sindh police, 156 officials and cops of Karachi police were killed during encounters with criminals and terrorists’ from January 2012 to date. The victims included one SP, one DSP, four inspectors, 14 sub-inspectors, 21 assistant sub-inspectors, 24 head constables and 91 constables.
The report said that 197 police officers and personnel were injured during the same period. The injured included four DSPs, five inspectors, 17 sub-inspectors, 26 assistant sub-inspectors, 28 head constables and 117 constables.
The report also showed that 37 police officers and personnel were killed and 85 others injured in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana during the same year.
On the occasion, Sindh IGP directed police officers that approved compensation and other relief items should be provided to the real heirs of slain policemen, besides one person from the affected family should be provided a job in the police department.
