An arms dealer’s shop was looted on Monday morning in the precincts of Rawalpindi’s Cantonment Police Station while the police was busy investigating the murder of a tailor whose body had been found the previous day.
According to details, Cantt Police was investigating the murder of Muhammad Rafique, a 50 year old tailor, when two motorcyclists entered the shop Baddarudin and Sons Arms Dealer and asked for rifle oil.
When the salesman of the shop said that they did not have rifle oil, the accused took out their pistols and tied the salesman at gunpoint. They took away 18 9mm pistols, 3 12-bore guns and 600 rounds of ammunition. According to police, Cantt Police has registered a case on the complaint of Mustafa Ahmad, owner of a shop, and has initiated investigation.
Police sources said that it was a unique robbery and the style with which the robbers executed their plan gave an impression that they belonged to some militant organisation.
“Investigators were facing problems as neither was there a CCTV camera installed at the shop nor was there any security guard present at the time,” the source said There are more than 52 banks and many currency exchangers in this area who have ignored the repeated directions of police regarding installation of CCTV cameras and the hiring of security guard.
