Punjab Youth Festival Marathon: Army athletes take top honours

The athletes of army took the honour of winning the 17 kilometres Marathon’s main three positions here on Sunday with Director General Sports and Youth Affairs Usman Anwar, other officials of the SBP along with scores of people welcomed the winners cross the finish line at the Punjab Stadium.
Army’s Adnan Khan took about just one hour and one minute to complete the 17 kilometres race that started from the LCCA ground which was organsied in connection with the Punjab Youth Festival. Adnan’s teammates Mohammad Zahid and Abid Hussain maintained the Army’s supremecy in the long distance races in the country by taking the second and third positions respectively.
Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan along with DG Usman Anwar flagged off the participants of the Marathon. He not only encouraged the participants of the marathon but also gave the vision of the Punjab government.
There was a slight change in the route of the Marathon to complete the 17 km distance. It started from the front of the LCCA ground at around 10.00 am with more than 15000 registration but there were thousands of those who entered late into the race. They ran to the Liberty roundabout and while passing through the newly-built Kamla Chowk underpass went towards Barket Market and from Campus took the Canal road to Dharampura. From there they took the U-turn and returned to the FC College underpass to turn to Zahoor Elahi Road and then towards the back road of Hafeez Centre and then to the Punjab Stadium.
