Pakistan committed to eliminate human trafficking: PM

Air Chief Marshal (R) Angus Houston, Australian Prime Minister’s Special Envoy called on Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf at Prime Minister House and discussed issues relating to human trafficking.

Welcoming Mr. Angus Houston the Prime Minister said that Australia and Pakistan enjoy good relations and have remarkable cooperation in various areas.

Appreciating the keen interest and full support of the Australian government, the Prime Minister said that people of Pakistan appreciate the assistance provided by the government of Australia, especially for establishing facilitation centres.

Pakistan, the Prime Minister said was committed to the Bali Process and eliminating sufferings caused due to human trafficking.

Air Chief Marshal (R) Angus Houston thanked the Prime Minister for finding time to meet him which reflected the close relationship and the importance attached to relations with Australia.

The Special Envoy has visited Pakistan on numerous occasions and has sound knowledge of the country.

Air Chief Marshal (R) Angus Houston briefed the Prime Minister about the policies and efforts being made by the Australian government to check human trafficking and reiterated that Australia will work closely with Pakistan to reduce human trafficking.

The Envoy suggested that Pakistan raise its representation in the Bali Process to the Ministerial level, which was accepted by the Prime Minister.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior. NNI
