Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) Central Minority Wing President and Minister of State for National Harmony Akram Masih Gill and MPA Engineer Shehzad Elahi have strongly condemned “gherao jalao” of Christian community in Lahore and said that Shahbaz Sharif’s government has once again failed to protect the Christians, due to which about 200 houses and shops of Christians in Joseph Colony Badami Bagh have been set ablaze in the presence of the police force.
In a joint statement issued here on Saturday, they said that the Punjab CM, his close aides and other government functionaries were absent when the attack was initiated, and now they were shedding crocodile’s tears and offering explanations on television channels. Despite prevalence of tensions since yesterday, the provincial government had left the Christians at the mercy of the rioters and did nothing for their protection.
The PML-Q leaders Akram Masih and MPA Engineer Shehzad Elahi have demanded that the Punjab government should fully compensate the affected citizens for their properties immediately. They said that earlier during the tenure of the present provincial government, a bloody drama was enacted in Gojra and the officers who were held responsible in the judicial inquiry for negligence and lethargy in discharging their duties were posted at higher posts instead of being punished.
They rightly stated that the minorities in particular and the Christians have always played a prominent role in the security and development of Pakistan, but the present provincial government had always maltreated them and had been unable to discharge its duty of protecting the lives and properties if minorities. They said that such treatment with minorities was not appropriate at all.
