PPPP candidate wins Senate seat unopposed

Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) candidate Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro has been elected unopposed to the Senate, says provincial election commission here on Saturday.
The provincial election commissioner and returning officer for Senate by-elections 2013 said in a public notice that a seat reserved for ulema and technocrats had fallen vacant on account of resignation tendered by Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and nomination papers have also been filed for that seat by only one candidate of PPPP, Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro.
He said upon scrutiny of nomination papers under Section 13 of the Senate (Election) Act 1975, the number of validity of nominated candidate for that seat was equal to the number of seat to be filled in, therefore, Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro, son of Rahimdad Soomro, resident of village Mazarjo, Taluka Khanpur, District Shikarpur, was declared as returned uncontested to the Senate of Pakistan from Sindh province under section 18 (1) of the Senate (Election) Act 1975 in place of Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
