All legal proceedings on Saturday remained suspended in city courts as the lawyers community observed a black day to mark the sacking of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by former president Pervez Musharraf on March 9, 2007.
Black flags were hoisted on rooftops of courts and bar rooms while the lawyers wore black armbands to observe the day with renewed commitment for the supremacy of law and constitution.
A senior lawyer said this day is observed against unconstitutional removal of Justice Chaudhry. He said on this day, the chief justice was summoned to the Army House and was asked to resign, but he refused to obey unconstitutional decision of the dictator.
The general body meeting of Karachi Bar Association was held in which lawyers expressed solidarity with the chief justice and supported him to continue his mission of making the courts independent.
