The Iranian parliament plans to study how to react to the recent killings of Pakistani Shias, a senior Iranian lawmaker announced on Saturday.
Speaking to FNA, Secretary of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Hassan Asafari said parliament’s presiding board will definitely discuss the recent bomb attacks and killings of the Pakistani Shia community in its Sunday’s session.
“We will also ask the foreign ministry to ask Pakistan’s envoy for explanations (on the issue),” he said, and added, “If this move proves to be ineffective, we will make use of our other authorities.”
“The government of Pakistan should explain why it has not shown a decisive reaction to these terrorist activities,” the Iranian lawmaker said.
Earlier today, thousands of Iranian seminary students and teachers staged a protest gathering in the grand mosque of the holy city of Qom to strongly condemn the recent bomb attacks and killings of the Pakistani Shia community.
Pakistani Shias have come under increasing attacks in recent months. In a recent case, over 45 were killed in a terrorist attack on the Shia community in Karachi last Sunday.
The seminarians from Qom and other Iranian cities gathered in Qom’s grand mosque today to protest and show anger against the brutal killings of Shia Muslims in neighbouring Pakistan.
Prominent religious figures and personalities, including Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, also joined the protesters who chanted slogans against the brutal attacks.
