Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday condemned the attack on a residential colony of the Christian community in Lahore and burning of their properties.
He termed the incident a flagrant failure of the Punjab government. He also expressed solidarity with the Christian families over the incident.
Altaf drew parallels with the Gojra riots of 2009 and this incident was reminiscent of the burning down a church and houses of Christian families of the area. He said history had been repeated in a grotesque manner at Badami Bagh.
Altaf questioned the law enforcement agencies and political leaders of the province and demanded to know what action had been taken to prevent the incident. Furthermore, he asked the why attackers had been given free reign to destroy the locality completely.
Moreover, Altaf said that while it was the duty of every Muslim to protect the honor of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), entire communities of a minority could not be wiped out over mere allegations of one person.
Furthermore, Altaf noted that Pakistan was going through a very delicate phase of its history. He said questions were being raised by the international media over the future of Pakistan as a nation.
He said the tragic incident of Lahore soon after the tragedies in Quettta and Abbas Town was a cause of grave concern.
