PYF 66 KM cycle race today, Reds win veterans cricket match

The Sports Board Punjab has fully prepared itself to organize one of the major concluding events, the 66 kilometres professional cycle race here at the Ring Road on March 9, (Saturday).

Apart from the professional race, there will be two 22 kilometres cycle races open for male and female cyclists and around 5000 cyclists are likely to be part of the three races. However, the females’ race will be held separately under police cordon.

All the security and safety arrangements have been finalized while water points, medical teams put on the routes.

All the three races will start from OldRaviBridge with a gap of time. The male and female 22 kilometre race will take a U-turn from GT Road Interchanges and take a final breather at Ravi Interchange. Thus the routes for the male and female race are the same and there will be gap of 15 to 30 minutes in between the races. The main 66 kilometres race that is also staring form OldBridge would go all the way to DHA Interchange and paddle back to Ravi Interchange.

Meanwhile, in the second cricket match of the veterans played at Bagh-i-Jinnah’s Lahore Gymkhana Ground, Lahore Reds won the match by four wickets.

Reds winning the toss put Lahore Greens in to bat which compiled 171 runs in 30 overs losing eight wickets. It was Javed Hafeez who with 55 runs, Arif Malik with 26 and Maqsood Ahad 21 lifted the score to fight for. It were Rehan Rauf who took two wickets for 28 runs while Shahid Ali and Jamshed Ahmed sharing one wickets each for 16 and 23 runs contained the Greens batsmen.

In reply, Lahore Reds archived the score losing six wickets in 28.5 overs. Saifur Rehman hammered 35 runs to lay the foundation of win while Ashraf Ali and Dastigar score 31 each to ensure the win for their team.

Romail took two wickets for 26, Nasir grabbed two for 31 while Javed had one for 26.

The third and final math of the best of three series will be played on March 12 at the same venue.
