A textile mill and CNG station owned by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Wattoo and his daughter MPA Robina Shaheen Wattoo are illegally consuming gas on load management days.
According to sources, a team of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) Sahiwal region found during checking that Resham Textile Mill and Tameere Watan CNG Station, owned by the minister and his daughter, were using gas during days of load management in sheer violation of law.
Furthermore, the CNG station has been using gas without submitting bank security. The textile mill and CNG station also have arrears worth millions of rupees.
The gas supply to the textile mill and CNG station was stopped following the revelation of theft but no further action has been taken against the culprits.
Meanwhile, work on providing 11,000 new gas connections is underway in Wattoo’s constituency despite a ban on new gas schemes.
There is no Resham Textile Mill nor does Wattoo, his sons or his daughters own any textile mill. There is a CNG station owned by the Wattoo family called the Tameer-e-Watan Filling Station at the crossroads of Haveli Lakha & Wasawewala. It is true that it is running without Bank guarantee. State Bank issued directive requiring all banks in Pakistan NOT to give bank guarantee to any CNG station because CNG sector does not have a promising no-risk future. Hence, if there is no bank willing to offer bank guarantee, how can anyone or Mr. Wattoo offer bank guarantee. Sources close to the Wattoo family revealed on Monday that MD SNGPL had issued a letter addressing "To whom it may concern" and stating that Mr. Wattoo's account is current and active with SNGPL. MD SNGPL was not available to comment, but the letter bears the seal of MD's office.
