Mallika Sherawat, who seemed to have vanished from the scene, popped up at one of the unlikeliest places—the auditions of American sitcom ‘Mike and Molly’. And although Jackie Chan had famously vouched for her acting credentials, the actress failed to impress the casting panel.
Mallika had been making frequent rounds to the auditions for nearly a month. However, she lost the race in the final round to London-based singer-cum-model Nosheen Phoenix. A source close to the sitcom Mike & Molly said, “Mallika came for the final auditions in a very exuberant mood. Her casting agent was accompanying her. However, her return was not that jubilant.” The final auditions were held last week in Los Angeles.
Mallika seems to have taken a hiatus from films after both her international project Love, Barack and Bollywood venture Kismat Love Paisa Dilli tanked at the box office. Phoenix, who has bagged the role for which Mallika was vying for, has spent the last three years developing her acting skills and has recently finished her first feature film ‘Confessions of a Womanizer’. While what went wrong with Mallika in the final round is not known, the source added, Nosheen too was in Los Angeles for the last few weeks auditioning for the romantic comedy that has recently sparked controversy with an American-Indian alcoholism joke. As for Mallika, we are sure she’ll pop up on our radar soon—either on a tycoon’s private jet or on the red carpet, blowing kisses to her invisible fans.
