A senior religious leader escaped attempt on his life in Landhi area of Karachi, as the financial hub continued to be under a spell of violence on Thursday that claimed the life of eight people, two Rangers personnel among them.
The dead included at least two Rangers intelligence personnel, a policeman and two missing people.
According to details, two assailants fired at a religious leader in Landhi, but he escaped the attempt on his life. Enraged people later took into custody both the assailants, tortured them and handed them over to police.
Two bodies bearing torture marks were found in Mewa Shah area of Pak Colony. The victims were identified as Rangers personnel Munir Baloch and Aijaz Ahmed, who were abducted from Lyari on Wednesday.
Both belonged to Field Security Wing and were on intelligence duty.
They were subjected to torture before being shot dead, sources said.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen ambushed a passenger bus in Gulshan-e-Ghazi area of BaldiaTown and killed a man identified as Javed.
The victim was a factory worker and police said the incident seemed to be the result of old enmity.
Another two people lost their lives when unidentified assailants opened fire in Pak Colony and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
The man killed in Bhitaiabad area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar was identified as Mehram Chand, a policeman.
Earlier, two strangled bodies were found from Khairabad area near Manghopir Northern by-pass with their names, Babu Iftikhar and Maqbool, written on a slip.
The sources said the deceased had been kidnapped from Panjgor district in Balochistan and belonged to Kakaan area.
Their names were part of missing persons’ list, the sources added.
