CM says Metro Bus a historic achievement, approves import of more buses

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that the Metro Bus project was a historic achievement in terms of courage and determination.

Presiding at over the third meeting of the Metro Bus Authority at Model Town, the chief minister said that new traveling facility had changed the culture of public transport. He said that the number of passengers traveling on the Metro Bus was increasing every day.

During the meeting, the import of more buses from Turkey was approved.

Moreover, he said that President Zardari and former president Pervez Musharraf were unable to “digest” the successes of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in launching this new form of public transport. He expressed the hope that if the Metro Bus continued to be a success, it would be launched in more cities.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that an impossible task had been made possible, due to the untiring efforts of the Punjab government and workers within just 11 months.

Shahbaz said the project had become a role model for the entire world as no project at such a huge scale had been completed in such a short of time.

Moreover, he said, the ever-increasing popularity of the Metro Bus points to the trust of the public in the Punjab government. He said that he did not need a performance certificate from anyone has his services to the people of the province spoke for themselves.

The chief minister claimed that the Metro Bus was proof of “complete” transparency. He said more buses were being imported Turkey to accommodate the increasing demands of the consumers.

He directed that the process of importing additional buses from Turkey should be further expedited, along with augmenting arrangements for provision of facilities to passengers.
