Finance ministry assuers ECP on release of funds

Federal Finance Minister Salim Mandviwala on Thursday assured the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that the funds would soon be provided to the ECP enabling it to hold the general elections smoothly.

During a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Fakruddin G Ebrahim, Mandviwala said that there is no uncertainty with regard to upcoming elections.

CEC said that the ECP had asked for Rs6 billion for the job but up till now it has only received Rs2 billion. He said that the remaining amount is urgently needed for printing of ballot papers and other requirements.

Talking to media, Ebrahim said that the meeting with Mandviwala was fruitful, adding he has assured that the funds will be released soon.

CEC said that Karachi situation would not become a hurdle in holding of elections, adding by the time of elections the in Karachi would be under control.
