Punjab Youth Festival: Cricket, badminton semis today

The Punjab Youth Festival 2013 competitions of Press Clubs, Bar Associations, Departments and Corporate sector in cricket and badminton have entered into semi-final stage while table tennis formally started at Shah Jahan Hall, near Mian Plaza on Tuesday. In the table tennis competitions, Lahore defeated Faisalabad 3-0. Lahore players did not give an inch to the Faisalabad Press Club players to settle down and won the competition. In singles, Lahore’s Naeem Akhtar beat Bilal of Faisalabad 10-6, 12-9. In the other singles match Sarmad Saeedi defeated Abdul Wahed 10-5, 108 and in the doubles match Lahore beat Faisalabad 11-7, 12-10.
In the second match, Multan edged aside Rawalpindi 3-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals. The table tennis competitions of departments, Bar Association and Corporate sector will start from today. In cricket matches of the press clubs, Lahore was overwhelmed by Multan. Lahore gathered 96 runs in eight overs but Multan hammered the target losing one wicket. With this nine wickets win Multan qualified for the semi-final and seems all set to defend its title.
In the badminton competitions, Higher Education Commission beat Motorway Police 2-0 to qualify for the final. Similarly in the Press club category, Sahiwal beat Rawalpindi while Lahore Bar defeated Rawalpindi. On Wednesday, semi-finals of cricket will be played at Ittefaq Ground, New Ittefaq, Shah Faisal and Mehran Club grounds while the semi-finals of badminton will be played at Iqbal Park Sports Complex Gymnasium and table tennis will have matches of bar association, corporate sector and industries at Shah Jahan Hall, Johar Town.
